Oil Painting Classes

  Oil Painting Expression
Painting is a two-dimensional visual language that  expresses ideas and emotions. The 'words' of this language are shapes, lines, colors, tones, and textures. These elements may be combined to produce landscapes, seascapes, portraits, and abstract visual relationships. A painting is a narrative of a particular idea, a story of a particular subject, an expression of particular emotions, or all of the above.

Painting Mediums
Paints are variously colored pigments ground to a fine powder. Mediums are the liquids added to paints to bind them together. Dry pigment powders are mixed with refined linseed oil to produce the paint for oil painting.

Oil Painting Techniques
Contours and shadows may be stained in streaks and washes of diluted paint. Lighter areas may be created with dry opaque scumbles. Half-tones provide tinted or reflected colors to describe subtle changes of form and texture.

Oil painting techniques lend themselves to producing wonderfully expressive, bold, striking or subtle works allowing a vast range of artistic expression.

Oil Painting Classes  provide the opportunity for students to explore the expressive qualities of this painting medium.
